Specialized Programs

Dual language programs in Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) are designed to promote bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural appreciation. These programs typically begin in Kindergarten or First Grade and continue through Grade 5, offering instruction in both English and Spanish. 

Students spend half the day learning subjects like math, science, and social studies in English, and the other half in Spanish. The goal is to create fully bilingual students who can read, write, speak, and listen in both languages fluently

Head Start is a federally funded early childhood education program administered by Broward County Public Schools (BCPS). It provides free comprehensive services to economically disadvantaged families with children ages birth to five years old, including:

• Educational instruction
• Health and developmental screenings
• Nutritional support
• Emotional and social development
• Family engagement and goal setting

There are two branches:

• Early Head Start: For pregnant women and children from birth to age 2
• Head Start Preschool: For children ages 3 and 4 (must be that age on or before September 1 of the school year) 

Intensive Prekindergarten (often abbreviated as Intensive PreK) is a specialized early learning program offered by Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) under the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) umbrella. It is designed to support children with unique academic and functional needs, often through individualized education plans (IEPs). These programs are typically hosted in inclusive settings such as Jonathan M. White's Cypress Elementary School. [Special Programs]
